Title: Chemist - Product Quality & Innovation
About Us Chris Christensen Systems, LLC, part of Nexus Brands Group's Pet Group, is a leader in the dog show and grooming industries that manufactures a variety of products for show enthusiasts and professional groomers including shampoos, conditioners, odor control, styling products, and more. We have a wide variety of products, with over 425 SKUs, 70% of which are manufactured within our warehouse located in Fairfield, Texas. We are seeking a hard-working, detail oriented, self-starter to add to our warehouse family. Position Overview The Chemist - Product Quality & Innovation, will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance while supporting new product development and continuous improvement of existing formulas. This is a hands-on role requiring cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Operations, R&D, and Sales. The ideal candidate will have experience in liquid formulation, product testing, and compliance for both domestic and international markets. What you'll be doing Quality Control & Product Testing - Establish routine and non-routine chemical and physical testing of raw materials, in-process batches, and finished products.
- Establish lab records and ensure documentation accuracy and traceability.
- Develop and validate test methods as needed to support quality objectives.
- Investigate and troubleshoot batch inconsistencies or quality issues.
Formulation & Product Development
- Support formulation of new pet care products including shampoos, conditioners, and specialty liquids.
- Reformulate existing products to improve performance, cost, or regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with marketing and operations teams to bring new products from concept to commercialization.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all products meet regulatory requirements for U.S., EU, and other global markets.
- Maintain and update safety data sheets (SDS), ingredient disclosures, and technical documentation.
- Work with internal and external partners to stay ahead of changing regulatory landscapes (e.g., REACH, CLP, TSCA, etc.).
Safety & Protocols
- Lead efforts around chemical safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
- Train production and QA staff on handling and testing procedures as needed.
- Maintain lab safety, cleanliness, and proper chemical storage practices.
Cross-Functional Support - Work closely with production and planning teams to scale lab formulations to manufacturing.
- Provide input during scale-up and production trials.
- Collaborate with QA and Operations to resolve technical or quality-related challenges.
- Any other duties needed to help drive to our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Company's Values.
Is this role for you?- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a lab setting within a manufacturing environment, preferably in personal care, pet care, or liquid formulation.
- Strong knowledge of formulation chemistry, raw material compatibility, and stability testing.
- Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks including EU cosmetic compliance and U.S. regulations.
- Excellent lab documentation, data analysis, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work on-site daily and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Hands-on, resourceful, and detail oriented.
