Insero Talent Solutions is recruiting a Chief Financial Officer for a well respected non-profit organization in Syracuse, New York.
JOB SUMMARY:
Direct, coordinate, and integrate the overall financial management, information technology, human resource, payroll and training areas to ensure efficient operations. Position supervises administrative staff with varied duties to ensure that all support functions of the organization are met. Works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors and various funding organizations. Joint responsibility for increased funding through grant applications to diversify revenue sources and increase income to support and sustain critical program and organizational initiatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Using accounting software and offline office programs prepare and approve financial statements and ensure proper internal controls including generation and review of GL reports and schedules.
- Ensure proper vouchering and monitoring of all contracts. Approve invoices and execute payments through paper check review and approval or initiating bank wire transfers and transactions.
- Prepare for and oversee external audits.
- Prepare accurate and timely reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.
- Oversee investment of funds and cash flow analysis.
- Direct preparation of budgets, review budget proposals and prepare necessary supporting documentation and justification.
- Meet with full board 3 times per year and Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Audit Committee and personnel committee as needed.
- Prepare for board and staff meetings including logistics, minutes and follow up. Update board monthly on financial status.
- Manage and coordinate activities and responsibilities of various administrative staff members within work group to ensure the efficient operation of the administrative function of the organization.
- Evaluate office production and operations, revise procedures, or devise new procedures to improve efficiency of work flow.
- Oversee the establishment of uniform procedures and practices for the organization. Includes weekly meetings and workflow planning.
- Oversee organization’s computer systems, remote access program procedures, networks and equipment through the outside consultants, Information Services Administrator. Includes purchasing, maintenance and inventory of all equipment and necessary services and contracts.
- Ensure that all problems are corrected in a timely manner.
- Oversee the Human Resource function of the organization through various programs.
- Provide assistance to staff on retirement, insurance, disability, payroll and other financial matters. This process includes oversight of all payroll and related tax filings, review of reports required by regulatory agencies, semi-monthly 401K reports and deposits, reconciliation and retirement paperwork. This includes the selection of benefits to offer, maintenance of employee handbook and files.
- Oversee the day to day goal compliance and program evaluation of all ADANE initiatives and report to CEO and Senior Management. Reviewed at monthly staff meetings. Set up/monitor employee training programs, staff conferences and staff meetings.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chief Financial Officer has direct supervision of the administrative, accounting and human resources staff. Responsibilities and oversight include recruiting, interviewing, making hiring recommendations, instructing and training in work methods; planning, assigning, directing and approving work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and recommending salary adjustments.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field required.
- Eight years progressive, hands-on experience in financial and risk management.
- Proficiency in general accounting functions including monthly, quarterly, year-end closing, preparation of general ledger tax reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Experience in non-profit industry preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- CPA certification desirable, but not necessary.
- Driver’s License.
- Required to work beyond normal work hours on a regular basis.
- On-call and weekend work is required.
- Periodic overnight travel.
- Occasional traveling to local, regional and nationwide locations is required. There will be times during the year when weekend travel will be necessary.

- Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously.
