Job Summary:
The Indirect Tax Manager oversees all aspects of the company’s indirect tax obligations, including sales and use tax, property tax, and VAT/GST where applicable. This position ensures compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations, manages tax filings and audits, and provides support to internal teams regarding tax matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and ensure timely and accurate preparation, filing, and payment of all indirect tax returns (sales & use, property, VAT/GST, etc.).
Research, interpret, and apply relevant tax laws and regulations to company operations.
Respond to tax audits, notices, and inquiries from tax authorities.
Partner with accounting, finance, and legal teams to ensure compliance and accurate documentation.
Support implementation and maintenance of tax-related systems and technology.
Identify and mitigate areas of tax risk and recommend process improvements.
Provide guidance on the tax impact of business transactions, expansions, or new product/service launches.
Oversee and mentor indirect tax staff or coordinate with outside advisors as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent preferred.
5+ years of experience in indirect tax, either in-house or at a public accounting firm.
Strong knowledge of US state/local or international VAT/GST regulations.
Proficiency with tax software (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, ONESOURCE) and Microsoft Excel.
Experience managing audits and communicating with taxing authorities.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
