Job Description

Senior Civil Engineer (Mid to Senior Level)

Location: Kansas City Metro Area

Employment Type: Full-time | Direct Hire

Industry: Civil Engineering / Mission Critical / Site Development

We’re seeking a technically strong and detail-driven Senior Civil Engineer to join a highly respected design and engineering firm with deep roots in the Kansas City market. This role is ideal for someone who wants to take the lead on high-impact industrial, mission critical, and commercial projects, from early due diligence through final design and delivery.

The right candidate brings both strong design expertise and the leadership skills to manage teams, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and drive projects forward with accuracy and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Site Development Efforts: Conduct site selection, feasibility studies, due diligence, and early-stage planning to assess project viability and optimize site layout
  • Design Civil Infrastructure: Oversee design and production for grading, drainage, utilities, paving, and stormwater systems across industrial, mission critical, and commercial sites
  • Manage Permitting Process: Prepare and submit permit packages to local jurisdictions, coordinate with AHJs, and respond to regulatory comments and revisions
  • Perform Engineering Calculations: Execute complex quantity takeoffs, stormwater modeling, and hydraulic calculations using tools such as Hydraflow, StormCAD, HydroCAD, and similar platforms
  • Produce and Review Documents: Prepare technical reports, construction documents, and specifications; review and QA/QC design packages for accuracy and compliance
  • Coordinate with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate closely with architects, structural, MEP, and environmental consultants to ensure cohesive project delivery
  • Mentor and Supervise Staff: Lead and support junior engineers and civil design staff, providing technical oversight and professional development
  • Support Project Management: Assist with or lead project scheduling, budgeting, and client communication as needed, especially on larger or multi-site efforts
  • Maintain Technical Standards: Serve as a subject matter expert in civil engineering practices, codes, and industry trends, and contribute to process improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

  • 8–15+ years of progressive civil/site design experience, preferably in commercial, industrial, or mission critical projects
  • Prior experience at a consulting engineering, architecture, or design-build firm is highly preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Missouri and/or Kansas (or the ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master’s a plus)
  • Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for site layout, grading, and utility design
  • Skilled in Bluebeam Revu for markups and collaboration
  • Experience with hydrology/hydraulics modeling tools: Hydraflow, StormCAD, PondPack, HydroCAD, or similar
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and AHJ coordination (local, state, and utility agencies)
  • Solid understanding of civil engineering codes, standards, and best practices
  • Proven ability to coordinate across disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to simplify technical content for clients and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage or co-manage projects: budgets, schedules, contracts, and deliverables
  • Comfortable mentoring junior engineers and conducting technical QA/QC reviews
  • Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Active in professional industry groups or associations (e.g., ASCE, SAME, ACEC)
  • Detail-oriented, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple priorities without micromanagement

What’s Offered:

  • Competitive base salary with performance-based bonuses
  • Full benefits: health, dental, vision, PTO, 401(k) match
  • Diverse and technically challenging project portfolio
  • Supportive leadership team and clear growth track
  • Culture of collaboration, autonomy, and technical excellence
